Context

In 2015 the University of Delaware embarked upon a campus-wide planning study to connect and unify its core campus in Newark, Delaware. Level was invited to the Cooper Robertson team to assess the future of the campus infrastructure systems and recommend near-term investments to support the future of the campus. The campus plan was a holistic endeavor, integrating new buildings, improved parks, new transit options, sustainability strategies, energy efficiency, and many other key considerations for modernizing the Newark campus and planning for growth to 2030 and beyond.

Our Role

Level Infrastructure engaged a wide diversity of stakeholders on campus to assess needs and recommend high-impact investments for sustainability and resilience for University of Delaware. Level provided a campus district energy systems plan, a campus-wide stormwater management strategy, and sustainability strategies to be incorporated in the physical plan. The plans provided by Level included recommendations for adjustments to the district chilled water network and steam network, which provide reliable heating and cooling, albeit at a high price to the university. Additionally, in its stormwater management plan, Level addressed new local regulations requiring more sustainable approaches to managing runoff.
