Context
FREE City is an urban prototype for new cities in the emerging economies of Latin America. The model strives to integrate sustainability, inclusivity, and population growth in an intelligent and systematic manner, prompting redefinition of the notion of a 21st century city. By imagining a new city from the ground up, the team was able optimize the locations and densities of buildings, parks, transit, utilities, and cultural facilities.
Our Role
Level Infrastructure worked with architecture firm FR-EE to propose a new city master plan that integrates high density, mixed-use living with public open space. The proposal leverages a radial organizational scheme that allows for both hierarchal zoning and continuous outward growth in all directions. Among other features, the plan for FREE City eliminates the need for cars by featuring a comprehensive public transit network that ensures all residents can live within an 8-minute walking distance of a transit station.
