Context

The Palava project is a sustainable development by Lodha, one of India’s premier housing developers.  On a 3,000-acre parcel east of Mumbai, Palava will be home for more than half a million people. The community aspires to serve as a model of sustainable, mixed-use development for India’s growing middle class by providing high quality housing and  urban amenities unique to the Indian context, such as walkable streetscapes, neighborhood clubhouses, public transportation, reliable and clean drinking water, and public parks. Phase 1 is complete, and Phase 2 is well under construction, so the reality of the planning endeavors has already come to life.

Our Role

For nearly a decade, Level Infrastructure has been a periodic advisor for strategic infrastructure planning to Lodha for the Palava project. Initially in 2010, Byron Stigge (while at a previous employer) developed an integrated infrastructure plan for the Concept Master Plan. In 2013, Level Infrastructure worked on the details to implement  distributed wastewater treatment plants and associated recycled water networks. Recently, in 2019, Level continued to support Phases 2 and 3 of the project by conducting a broad mobility study to aid in the decision making and implementation of local roadway networks, intersection placement and design, and public transportation provision in the project’s second phase of development.
