Context
Bedrock’s developments in downtown Detroit have single-handedly reshaped the city’s skyline and re-energized the city’s streets. The Rivereast development aims to bring new life to about 10 acres of surface parking lots, transforming them into a vibrant waterfront district with residential, hotel, office, retail, and entertainment uses. Streetscapes were designed with a focus on pedestrians and bicycles so traffic calming measures were integrated with trees and street furniture.
Our Role
Level Infrastructure supported the Rossetti/SOM team by developing sustainable energy, water, transportation, and solid waste strategies for the development. A district condenser water network was proposed with an option for a biomass boiler. By combining energy efficient appliances with Passive House construction techniques and green electricity from northern Michigan, the project has the potential to be a net-zero carbon development when completed.
