Context
Level worked with the design firm Collective for Community, Culture, and Environment to develop a study and development action plan for Stamford’s South End. A former industrial neighborhood, the South End is experiencing rapid redevelopment that will continue into the foreseeable future. As growth occurs in the area, The City wants to ensure that meaningful community engagement, historic preservation, and housing affordability are achieved. Accordingly, this study focused on how to partner with private sector developers to improve streets, parks, utilities, and transit in order to benefit both existing residents and new residents.
Our Role
Level Infrastructure provided infrastructure analysis services related to district energy, flood resilience, and transportation. Through this process, Level developed recommendations for strategic infrastructure investment. Key to the plan were bike and bus networks that could transform the South End from a heavily automobile-reliant community into a walkable and bikeable district. Level developed a bike network plan and bus network plan for the South End that connect residents with places of employment, the Stamford Transportation Center, a proposed ferry line, and recreational amenities throughout the neighborhood.
